Francis Lovinia "Fanny" Foster was born May 25 1853, in Aylesford Twp., NS, the daughter of Ezra Foster (1816-1903) and Annie Nancy Spinney (1823-1910). Fanny was the fifth of ten children of this farming family. When she received this letter in March of 1867, she was apparently not living on the family farm in Aylesford. She may have been working for Ben Kinsman either in his store or as a domestic servant in his household. Two and a half years later, on November 3, 1869, Francis Lovinia Foster, 18, of Ezra, married William Wood, 21, of Daniel and Sarah, in the Berwick Baptist Church. William was himself a farmer, the son of Daniel Wood (1819-1899) and Sarah Brown (1829-1916). Fanny and William had three sons and two daughters. Fanny died on April 17, 1943 in Centreville and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Billtown, Kings County.

1871 census for Harbourville, Kings County lists William Wood, 22, Baptist farmer, with his wife Frances Wood, 20, and their child Florence Wood, 7/12.

Curiously, the 1871 census for Aylesford has Lovinia Foster, 20, living in the household of her parents Ezra and Anna foster and their other 9 children. One must assume the census taker was given a list of all the members of this large family and erroneously included the now married Francis Lovinia on his census of current household members.

The 1881 census for Centreville, Kings County has William Wood, 33, Baptist farmer, with his wife Fanny Wood, 28, and children Florence Wood, 10, and Gorge Wood, 3.

1871 census for Lakeville, Kings County, lists Ben Kinsman, 49, Free Thinker, merchant, with his wife Elizabeth, 45, Christian, and three children.
