John Henry Kaulbach, Jr. (10 Feb 1796 – 26 Feb 1878), was High Sheriff of Lunenburg for 49 years, succeeding his father Henry Kaulbach, Sr. (31 Dec 1758 - 16 Jun 1833) who held the office for 32 years, from 1798 - 1828. His son, Henry Adolphus Newman Kaulback (December 28, 1830 – January 8, 1896) was a lawyer, ship owner, and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Lunenburg County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1863 to 1867 and sat for Lunenburg in the Senate of Canada from 1872 to 1896.

John Henry Kaulbach Jr., Deputy Sheriff of Lunenburg County, married, on 22 April 1826, Sophia Frederica Newman (1802-1889), the daughter of Adolphus and Regina Elizabeth Newman . The handsome newly-weds had their portraits painted, likely in the early 1830s, and probably by the same unknown artist; the results were displayed in identical frames. John Henry Kaulbach (1797-1879) was part of a family dynasty - his father, John Henry Sr., was High Sheriff from 1798 to 1828, when he was succeeded by his son, who then held the office for 49 years until his death in 1879.


The Kaulbach House at 75 Pelham Street, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, is on the Canadian Register of Historic Places.
